How to Cook Up a Storm with a Food Blog that Sizzles

Let’s say it like it is – we are all wolfing down food content on our social media these days. Whether you are a seasoned cook or a Maggi-making amateur, foodstagrammers are on all our feeds. Over the years we have watched binge-worthy recipe reels, restaurant reviews that make us want to book a table, and lapped up kitchen hacks we never knew we needed. But here’s the catch (of the day!): not all food blogs are hitting the mark. So, what’s the recipe for food content that works?

Back in 2019, TIC was tasked with transforming Godrej’s Vikhroli Cucina, a food blog into a digital publishing website that would become a platform where food influencers and food enthusiasts could share ideas at the same table. The client wanted a website where readers were allowed to upload original content and a platform which would be the face of food on social media.

To understand the different elements needed to create this platform, TIC conducted a detailed UX study that would direct design and content development. This would help create a website for the varied target audience of food professionals to food enthusiasts across digital expertise. Get an insight into our UX Design process for Vikhroli Cucina.

With TIC’s 5Di approach the UX study helped understand the needs of the varied target audience, match UI to user engagement, and create a personalised user experience by creating an intuitive website. This study also unearthed the untapped potential in the food space.

This resulted in the creation of a virtual platform that gathered the scattered food community into one place and drove engagement creating interest. Today, Vikhroli Cucina is a vibrant, buzzing space that is approved by food enthusiasts and professionals and is a communal table for shared food trends and ideas.

WHAT IS THE RECIPE FOR A SUCCESSFUL FOOD PLATFORM?

We dive into the essential ingredients that make a food blog deliciously successful. From drool-worthy visuals to a user experience as smooth as butter, we’ll explore how to keep foodies and home chefs coming back for more.

SERVE UP STUNNING VISUALS

  • Social media is all about pictures and that cannot ring more true for a food page. Food is first eaten by the eyes so go ahead and try different food photography techniques. Invest in a good camera and make natural light your sous-chef. Style your food plates before taking that Michelin-star-worthy shot!
  • Like everything else on social media, food is also a 2-minute affair. Make engaging short-form video content, like recipe reels and cooking tutorials and use platforms like Instagram reels, TikTok, and YouTube shorts to showcase your culinary skills.

WRITE MOUTHWATERING RECIPES

  • A recipe might look like an easy set of instructions to write, but you may need to brush up on your writing skills. Break down your recipe into easy-to-follow steps and give your readers clear and concise instructions.
  • Specify exact measurements and suggest brands that will help the recipe and in turn your audience.
  • Add your personal touch by sharing fool-proof techniques or tips related to the recipe. This adds a human element and makes your content relatable.

CREATE A SMORGASBORD OF CONTENT

  • Look beyond your comfort food zone and explore food-related topics like restaurant reviews, travel food guides, and kitchen tips.
  • Seasonal content is very trendy right now so use festive seasons and holidays to create relevant content.
  • Engage your audience by using quizzes, polls, and challenges.

DON’T GO BLAND! SPICE IT UP WITH A BRAND IDENTITY!

  • Stand out amongst the clutter by creating a memorable brand identity.
  • Create a unique voice and writing style which will help you distinguish yourself from other food blogs.

SEASON YOUR CONTENT WITH SEO TECHNIQUES

  • Optimise your website for speed so your users can get a seamless experience.
  • Mobile-friendly design so readers can access whenever hunger pangs hit.
  • Make your website easy to navigate so your readers don’t get hangry looking for things!
  • Identify relevant keywords and incorporate them naturally into your content.
  • Build backlinks to your blog from other reputable websites to improve your search engine ranking.

BREAK BREAD WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

  • Engage with your audience by replying to comments and likes.
  • Encourage audience participation and build a loyal following.
  • Collaborate with other food bloggers to cross-promote your content.

By following these tips, you can create a food blog that not only looks good but tastes great too. Remember, the key to success is to be passionate about food and share your love of cooking with the world. So, what are you waiting for? Start cooking up a storm today!
