Since we have been in the mood for wrap-ups, we present to you our favourite Subtext issues from 2024 – the ones that were fun to ideate and curate, pushed the boundaries of our creativity and most importantly, loved by all of you.

November 2024 – The All-Things Food Issue

This one was a visual treat! We explored the recipe of creating a perfect food blog – the UX, the content, the storytelling, and most importantly, the community-building aspect of it. The issue also challenged readers to pronounce some fun words and explored how veganism became a thing in an interesting podcast.

September 2024 – the one that explored the influence regional languages in marketing

In the September issue of Subtext, we dived into the rich interplay between Urdu and Hindi. We also spoke to Vaishali Shroff, author of Tatung Tatung and Other Amazing Stories of India’s Diverse Languages where she shared fascinating insights about the origins of Hindi and its evolution over time. The issue also explores the growing prominence of vernacular languages on the internet.

TIC @ 25 – Our anniversary issue

2024 marked a major milestone for TIC—our 25th year! We couldn’t be more excited about this significant achievement. Year 25 was particularly special as it saw a shift in leadership, the articulation of our purpose and values, and a strategic pivot towards UX design, website development, internal communications, and thought leadership content. Words that should be Banned

This is it! We are scratching these buzzwords from our vocabulary—once and for all!

It’s not that we’re tired of hearing them (okay, maybe a little), but let’s face it: these words have lost their meaning. They’re overused, overhyped, and often add zero value to the conversation. So, let’s leave them behind and start saying what we really mean. Deal?

Hover over these words to know what they actually mean!

Burning the midnight oil Working late to fix problems caused by bad planning earlier. Innovative solutions Old solutions, but now with a new PowerPoint template. Empower your team Buzzword for, “Let them do their job while we take credit.” Leverage synergies A corporate term for ‘Let’s overcomplicate teamwork.’ DISRUPTOR Fancy way of saying, “I’m here to shake things up... but mostly just annoy people.” Command and control AKA, "Do as I say, not as I do." Think outside the box Code for: “We’re out of ideas, so you figure it out.” Lead from the front Marching ahead like a boss, but forgetting your team’s still in the parking lot. Cutting-edge Shiny, trendy, and probably obsolete by next Tuesday. Win-win situation The situation wins, but you probably don’t. FOLLOW THE LEADER Hope the leader knows where they’re going, because you don’t. VISIONARY Someone with a lot of ideas but no GPS to make them happen. Game-changer This means working late into the night. Low-hanging fruit Easy wins, but somehow still out of reach. Think globally, act locally The ultimate “sounds good on paper” phrase.
