The Art of Writing the Perfect AI Prompt

It is not uncommon to find yourself in a situation where you have the perfect idea and can imagine exactly what you want but are unable to articulate it to your AI generator?

Welcome to the age of AI where we content creators need to know the art of generating the perfect AI prompt.

It can be a challenge for the best of us – we could get verbose, rant a little, or even go completely off the rails while asking AI to generate something for us. The trick here is to KISS – or keep it simple, stupid!

Here are a few pointers that have helped TIC to generate the perfect prompts whenever we needed a little help from AI. Remember, an article written by AI will be just that – a computer-generated article devoid of that human flair. So don’t demonise AI, instead use it to save yourself time to work smarter, not harder.

Remember to describe the subject of your prompt in detail. You want to have AI generate an image of a dog in a park. In your mind you have the perfect picture, so why not tell AI about it. Describe the kind of dog, breed, height, colour. Now is the dog smiling or angry? Is he squeaky clean or muddy? Is he alone at the park or surrounded by his friends? You get the general canine idea, right?

Use natural language. Avoid complicating your language with technical terms and colloquialism. Speak to AI like you are talking to a friend. Use conversational language and straightforward sentences.

Specify the desired outcome in terms of sentence structure and readability if you are asking AI to write an email, make sure to include the tone of the email. If you are trying to write an article, give details about the sentence structure and a little bit about who your target audience is. This will help AI generate something that is just right for your intended audience.

Keep prompts straightforward. Do not confuse — lengthy prompts with too many details will confuse AI. Keep your prompts to the point and avoid vague language. You can always refine the prompt after you get the first reply.

Structure your prompt in a way that AI can put information into context for you. Adding contextual information to your prompt is important because it allows AI to understand your query and helps it provide relevant answers and avoid generic ones.

Don’t shy away from refining your prompts. Don’t expect AI to get it right on your very first query. Keep refining your prompt and don’t hesitate to ask questions multiple times.
